NET is seeking a Manager of Portfolio Management to help lead the commercial optimisation of our integrated gas portfolio and play a central role in shaping the future direction of Physical Gas Trading.
This position offers the opportunity to combine strategic leadership, commercial decision-making, and people development within one of the most dynamic areas of the energy industry.
The team
Portfolio Management is an integral part of Physical Gas Trading and serves as the commercial center for portfolio strategy, valuation, risk optimisation, and asset utilisation.
The team works across the entire gas value chain, translating market opportunities, asset flexibility, and risk appetite into portfolio decisions that maximise risk-adjusted returns.
As Manager of Portfolio Management, you will lead a team of experienced professionals and become a central part of future strategic decisions within Physical Gas Trading.
The role
You will be accountable for the overall commercial performance of NET's gas portfolio across physical and financial markets.
The role requires a combination of strategic thinking, quantitative understanding, commercial judgement, and leadership. You will define portfolio strategy, evaluate investment opportunities, oversee valuation methodologies, and ensure that portfolio decisions are aligned with both market opportunities and risk appetite.
Key responsibilities
Portfolio Strategy & Value Creation
- Own the commercial performance and risk-adjusted profitability of NET's integrated gas portfolio.
- Define and execute portfolio strategies across physical and financial gas markets.
- Optimise storage, transportation capacity, flexibility contracts, structured products, and other embedded optionality.
- Allocate risk capital and portfolio capacity towards the most attractive value opportunities.
- Balance short-term commercial opportunities against long-term portfolio objectives.
Portfolio Positioning & Risk Management
- Lead portfolio positioning and exposure management across outright price risk, basis risk, curve shape, and optionality.
- Ensure portfolio decisions are supported by fundamental, quantitative, and market-driven analysis.
- Establish and continuously develop valuation frameworks for physical and structured gas exposures.
- Evaluate portfolio performance through PnL, cash flow, capital utilisation, and risk-adjusted return metrics.
- Drive scenario analysis, stress testing, and strategic portfolio reviews.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Portfolio Management team.
- Act as a senior commercial counterpart within Physical Gas Trading
- Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership regarding portfolio positioning, asset utilization, and investment opportunities.
- Contribute actively to the strategic direction and organisational development of Physical Gas Trading.
This role sits at the centre of our commercial decision-making. Success requires balancing market insight, quantitative analysis, portfolio economics, and sound judgement to maximise value across an increasingly complex and integrated gas portfolio. The person we are looking for will help shape both our portfolio strategy and the future development of Physical Gas Trading.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a commercially driven leader with substantial experience in gas, power, commodities, portfolio management, or asset optimization.
You combine analytical depth with strong business judgement and can translate complexity into actionable decisions.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience within energy trading, portfolio management, asset optimisation, risk management, or related commercial disciplines.
- Strong understanding of physical and financial gas markets.
- Proven experience managing complex portfolios and market exposures.
- Deep understanding of valuation methodologies, mark-to-market, optionality valuation, and risk-adjusted performance measurements.
- Experience with portfolio hedging, asset-backed trading, and optimisation of flexible energy assets.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to influence commercial and analytical functions.
- Leadership experience with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Ability to make decisions under uncertainty and in rapidly changing market environments.
