Senior Compliance Officer

The role
As Senior Compliance Officer at Norlys Energy Trading A/S, you will play a key role in further developing and strengthening our compliance framework within energy trading. Compliance at Norlys Energy Trading is a core business function, closely connected to trading activities, risk management, IT, and senior management.
You will have significant ownership of our trade surveillance and market conduct compliance setup and act as a trusted sparring partner to the business. The role is hands-on, but also offers clear influence on how we design, prioritise, and evolve compliance going forward.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of the trade surveillance framework covering physical and financial commodity trading
- Further develop and enhance surveillance systems and protocols related to market conduct and market abuse
- Drive compliance work linked to key regulations, including:
- REMIT (Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency)
- MAR (Market Abuse Regulation)
- MiFID II / MiFIR (as applicable to trading activities and behaviour)
- Identify regulatory gaps, emerging risks, and new regulatory expectations, and translate them into practical, business-oriented controls
- Act as a senior compliance sparring partner to traders, analysts, risk, IT, and management
- Contribute to regulatory strategy and prioritisation, including how new requirements are implemented in practice
- Support and strengthen a strong compliance culture through dialogue, guidance, and targeted training
- Work closely with the existing compliance team and contribute with senior-level expertise and perspective
Compliance at Norlys Energy Trading must support the business while safeguarding its integrity. We are looking for someone who combines deep market understanding with a pragmatic, hands-on compliance mindset — and who wants to take ownership and continuously raise the bar.
Qualifications – must haves
- Strong working knowledge of physical and financial commodity trading, including products, markets, and trading platforms
- Solid experience working with trade surveillance, market conduct monitoring, and compliance in an energy or commodities trading environment
- Proven ability to balance regulatory requirements with commercial realities
- A pragmatic, confident, and collaborative approach, with the ability to challenge constructively when needed
Additional qualifications (nice to have)
- Experience in acting as a senior specialist or subject matter expert within compliance
- Exposure to regulatory dialogue, audits, or supervisory interactions
- Experience in contributing to the design or improvement of surveillance tools or methodologies
- International trading or cross-border regulatory experience
